Oregon vs Georgia Ducks vs Dawgs Swoosh vs Sic’em It is highly ironic that in his debut as head coach of the Oregon Ducks, Dan Lanning will be coaching against basically the same players he celebrated winning a National Championship with less than 9 months ago as Defensive Coordinator of the Georgia Bulldogs. Another new Duck who has to be more than familiar with Georgia’s playing style and capabilities is former Auburn Quarterback Patrick Nix, who Oregon acquired through the transfer portal. Considering how often he had to in practice, there can’t be anyone else in coaching who is more experienced in going against Georgia’s effective balanced offensive attack than Lanning. Helping Lanning in this cause against his former team is Preseason All-American Sophomore Linebacker Noah Sewell. At 6-3, 251 lbs, Sewell has ideal linebacker size for tacking on blockers and runners in the trenches or on the outside. Continually blessed with never-ending depth at running back, and an all-star offensive live, Georgia’s hard charging ground attack may serve as the SEC’s best version of smash-mouth football that the conference prides itself on. The battle between Sewell and the Georgia ground attack should be one of the most entertaining angles in this cross conference kickoff classic matchup. The Dawgs are generally listed as a 17 point favorite across the sportsbooks, give or take ½ a point, with the over/under hovering around 50/51. I expect Lanning to have his Ducks fit the road dog/underdog role well and keep the defending national champions in check for much of the game. However look for big plays down the stretch from Georgia’s arsenal of tight ends in Brock Mowers, Darnell Washington and LSU transfer Arik Gilbert to firmly secure a Bulldog Victory and cover the spread. Having the game in Atlanta should also strongly work to their benefit. Final Score Prediction: Georgia 34 – Oregon 13. Sic’Em! (for entertainment purposes only, not actual betting advice).
